Chamberlayne College Rock Challenge Photos

Here are a few photos that we have just received from our friends at Chamberlayne college of their Rock Challenge rehearsals 2012.

We have been advised that there will be more to follow of the actual performance at Southampton at a later date.

More about Chamberlayne college’s Rock Challenge performance can be found by clicking here.

Many thanks to Rachel for supplying these photos.

More news from the UK Rock Challenge.

I am not a devout user of twitter, but I have my Gwibber program running all day on my machine at work, so I get short snippets of messages delivered to me on a regular basis. Most of these I tend to miss or ignore, but to my complete surprise I noticed one marked “@TheSteveAllen……”, so I took note of it! Continue reading

We have been running this blog for a period of 2 months now and, in this time, we have made more than 50 postings and pages, and collected 3,000 hits and quite a few followers. I suppose that this could be considered a minor success, but we would very much like to make it even better.

The idea behind the blog was to make this an area where our customers could interact, pick up design tips, catch up on news about us and our other customers, and to be a repository for useful knowledge, clip art and other elements relating to design and graphical work.

In its current state, it is still very much in its infancy. So far we have run articles on the Rock Challenge and the Moonlight Prowl; posted a few tips about Graphic Art; uploaded a few bits of clip art; given news of a few special offers and a launched a competition. We hope now, that with your help, we can start to make it even more informative, relevant and useful.

We ask you, therefore, that now that you have seen what we are about, you might consider joining in by signing up and making suggestions as to the types of article that you feel would be useful both to yourselves and to others.

In the pipeline we have more articles about the Rock Challenge from our English schools, more Moonlight Prowl news, I will be doing a few tutorials on photomanipulation using GIMP and quite a bit more vector graphics in Inkscape. We will also be explaining about the different formats for bitmaps and their usage, a bit about RGB and CMYK colours…..and a whole lot more!

Unfortunately, I have no idea if you will find any of this to be useful, entertaining or informative so, please help us out by letting us know what articles you would like to see. You might even think of contributing Public Domain artwork to our gallery. Why not click on the ‘Members Log In’ button and sign up to being part of us?

The last t-shirts and hoodies for the Aberdeen Rock Challenge event left our works last night, so we can now look forward to tonight’s event at the AECC knowing that we have done ‘our bit’ again this year! Continue reading

Introducing – Open Clip Art (dot Org)

Hardly a week goes by where we do not have a customer walk through our doors asking us to put a picture of a celebrity or a cartoon character on an item of clothing, a bag or a mug. When we explain that we are unwilling to fulfill their request because of copyright, I often feel that this is the very first time that anyone has ever mentioned the word to them. I even get requests where the customer presents me with an image that they have downloaded complete with Shutterstock watermark, and ask me to use that!

Not only are these images protected by copyright and are therefore not available for use, but they are invariably low resolution images deliberately optimized and compressed for quick download for people with slow connection speeds.

Given the amount of hen nights, stag nights, holidays, sports events, concerts etc. for which we are required to provide both legal and good quality designs, how is this achieved? Continue reading

A big thank you!

Once again, the company has been given tickets to the Rock Challenge event in 18th February at the AECC, this time by our friends at Turriff Academy. (Westhill supplied them the previous year if I remember correctly). As I have heard that they might be opening the food stalls again, (unlike last time that I attended, 2 years ago), it looks like I will be going to support ‘our’ local teams again after all!!

Given the fact that the final is going to be held in Dundee this year, and not in Grimsby as has previously been the case, I’m sure that this will also mean that the resulting easing of travel and accommodation worries for the winners will ensure that this year’s competition will be better and more fierce then ever!

I notice that there is a smaller field of competitors than before, and truly hope that interest will now start to pick up in the Aberdeen area’s schools for the 2013 competition as a result of the shifted venue for the regional final.

…now back to printing hoodies for RC!
