This Year’s Calendar Contenders

I have made up a gallery of photographs that we are thinking of using for this year’s calendar for our customers, and thought that it would be a good idea to get feedback from the members of this blog. Remember that I need to pick 12 from this gallery, so please let me know which you think that I should include and those which you think I should not include. All constructive comments would be welcome. It would also be useful to know your thoughts as which photos should go with which month. Continue reading

Some of you may have noticed that I had removed my posting featuring the video performances of two of the schools that we support in the Rock Challenge event. This was due to the fact that I was questioned about breach of the owner’s copyright.

Fortunately, I have now been given the green light by the owner to re-embed these videos, so they have been reinstated. I would like to thank all the staff at the Be Your Best Foundation for them supporting me in this matter, and I look forward to be able to continue supporting the event and keeping you all informed when it starts again in January 2013.

When it comes to copyright, it pays to be honest, and I like to think that our company will continue to operate within the complicated copyright laws….until everyone embraces Creative Commons Licensing of course!!

More additions to our Art Gallery

Today I have been adding to our galleries in the hope that some of our members and regular readers might be inspired to make contributions of their own.

Sphere Land – one of the new additions to our galleries, courtesy of Isabelle Dermousis.

The observant amongst you will have seen that I have managed to cajole another of my friends on deviantArt into contributing a dozen of her most favourited pieces of artwork to our galleries here on this blog. The lady in question is from Greece, and she produces interesting 3D artwork using a program called Bryce (which I have never used). I recommend that you take a look at her gallery and remember to click on the thumbnails to enlarge the images. If you like what you see, more of her work can be found on deviantArt. I would like to thank Isa, along with Darren, Joe, Mustapha and Nigel for supporting me on this matter.

On a slightly smaller scale, I have been adding more flags to the clip art galleries for you to use as required. If anyone has any ‘requests’ for flags (including heraldic), please let me know and I will see what I can muster.

Please remember that only artwork marked at Creative Commons licensed is available for use by yourselves, all other work belongs to the accredited artists, and their permission must be sought before re-use.

A Postcard from Penang

Continuing my ‘Postcard Series’, I have now put together a few photos that I took on my recent visit to Penang in Malaysia. The normal restrictions apply i.e. they all carry a CC-BY-SA license, so please only use them according to these restrictions. These images have been compressed for quick download. Full resolution and quality versions are available upon request.

Tripitaka has a quest for you!

When I set up this blog at the end of January, one of the objectives that I set myself was to make it into a library of clip art and photoclips to help up-and-coming artists. I made a few tutorials on producing photoclips using the free software GIMP, and hoped for a few contributions from readers. Unfortunately, this has not yet happened, so I have decided to start producing a few interesting images of my own in the hope that members might join me.

Monkey

A carved version of 70′s cult classic Monkey.

Last night I spent an hour or so extracting a wooden carving of one of my favourite TV characters ‘Monkey’ (seen above), who has now been submitted to our photoclip library for your use. If anyone would like to contribute to this gallery, just let me know and please remember that you will have to use a CC-BY-SA license on your work (or make it CC0 – Public Domain), so that it can legally be used as intended. If you are interested in CC licensing for your own work, I recommend that you click on the link at the bottom of this page and see how it can help you.

As we have now started making a weekly puzzle, I will take this opportunity to add another ‘poser’ to our members:-

What were the names of Monkey’s other two companions on his quest?

Once again, there are no prizes for this. I thought that it might be a bit of fun for some of you that grew up in the 1970′s and watched badly-dubbed Japanese TV programs!!

Please try and contribute to our galleries. Your work will be accepted regardless of quality (within reason).

A Postcard from India (Part 1) – Goa

As promised, here are a few snaps that I took while on my recent holiday which are Creative Commons licensed and therefore available to be used in your own work under the restrictions given below. All images have been reduced in size to speed up the download. If anyone wants the full-sized original of any or all of them, please let me know and it can be arranged.

Creative Commons and FOSS

I just came across a set of posters by my friend Martin Owens that I set as favourites on deviantArt some long time ago, and thought that it would be a good idea to upload them to this site in an attempt to explain the concepts of Creative Commons and FOSS (Free and Open Source Software).

In an age where everyone is complaining about austerity, I find it amazing the people are still buying software and using operating systems that require you to buy more software in order to be able to use it safely, especially when FREE and OPEN versions are readily available to download!! Without any worry about piracy laws!! I can only assume that the reason for this is that the public are unaware of the alternatives available.

The posters in this gallery are devised to help us all to make people aware of CC and FOSS, so please feel free to use them.

Ensure that you accredit the original artist by using this link.

You will notice that these licenses are used extensively around this site, especially in our clip art galleries. Please make certain that you obey the conditions of the license if you use anything that is not Public Domain (CC0).
