News has just been received that Cockermouth School claimed second place in the National Finals of the UK Rock Challenge in Milton Keynes last night, with Fraserburgh Academy getting the prize for the best soundtrack.

We at PomPrint send our congratulations to both schools on their tremendous record in the competition and look forward to working with you again next year.

Hopefully I will get a full report and photos to follow (after school holidays).

Rock Challenge Videos

Just in case you have been wondering why we have been so keen on supporting our schools in the Rock Challenge competition, I thought that it was about time for members to see what the fuss is all about so, just for fun, here you can see and vote on the performances of the two schools that we have supported that have reached the national final. Please let us know which of these two performance you prefer!!

These videos are shown here by kind permission of Global Rock Challenge TV, to whom I am very grateful.

Concrete Cows on the Menu for the Broch and Cockermouth Schools

I don’t fully understand why, but when I hear the words ‘Rock’ and ‘Challenge’ in the same sentence, I immediately start thinking about the weather. I suppose that the idea of the competition starting in February each year here in the frozen north might have something to do with it, as I have many recollections over the years of standing in queues in the snow outside the Music Hall and the AECC, and having to leave the event before the results were announced, for fear if not being able to get myself home via the wondrous Aberdonian autobahn system! Race for Life Team

Meet the Cockermouth ‘Race for Life’ Team.

A short time ago I put out an appeal for you to support the female staff at Cockermouth school in an effort to raise money for Cancer Research on behalf of one of their colleagues who had recently been diagnosed with the illness. Unfortunately, the team are still well away from their target, so I was hoping that a photo of the ladies wearing their campaign t-shirts might make a few of you jump into action and sponsor them. The sponsorship link is here.

..and some of the ladies are here…..

Paton’s Purple Princesses

In February 2012 a colleague was diagnosed with breast cancer and, within a month, had surgery and began a course of chemotherapy.

To say staff at Cockermouth School were shocked is a huge understatement as this colleague is the type of person who, no matter what is going on in her own life, is always thinking of others, and, no matter how busy she is at work, always finds time to listen to everyone else’s problems.

Many staff have rallied (as we all do in these circumstances) and baked and cooked and offered lifts for the family. It’s not a lot but everyone feels helpless at a time like this, which is why we all decided to enter a Cockermouth School team into this year’s Race for Life. We set up a Race for Life group called Paton’s Purple Princesses (purple being our colleague’s favourite colour!) and a fundraising page, then emailed all staff asking for team members and/or donations to our fundraising page. Currently, we have 38 team members and £295 in sponsorship; this doesn’t include any money that has been raised in school, which will be added at a later date. We are grateful to everyone who has donated so far, but I’m sure we can do better. If anyone would like to make a donation to this very worthy cause, please visit our fundraising page (Click to go to link).

We must also extend our thanks to PomPrint, who have generously donated our team t-shirts; we may not be the fastest on the field but we will certainly be the smartest!

I would like to thank my facebook friends who have joined our happy little band tonight and have entered our competition to win £30 worth of goods from our catalogues. I hope that you will all take a look around this site and start to enjoy the benefits of membership.

As a member, you are now able to leave comments on our postings and, if you have an event to advertise (especially those for charitable causes), you will be allowed to make your own postings. If you are of an artistic nature you might take a look at some of our tutorials or event submit a gallery of your own work in the East Wing of our gallery. You are also invited to contribute to our clip art resources to help other members with their own work.

Last night we achieved 10,000 hits on the site (excluding members) since we started up at the end of January, and are currently averaging more than 100 hits per day. This means that your contributions will have a good chance of getting seen!! Happy

Very soon I will be introducing you to another charity that the company is supporting, this time in Cockermouth, Cumbria. I hope that you will give it the same kind of support that you gave to Mandy and her friends in Nottinghamshire earlier in the year. More details to follow in the next week or so.

Lastly, I would like to wish the teams from Fraserburgh and Westhill our best wishes for their performances in the Scottish Rock Challenge finals tomorrow night, especially as this will give me something else of local interest to report to you all. Good luck guys – Break a Leg!!

Three Brothers…..

Three choices …. one destiny! So goes the title of Cockermouth school’s performance in this year’s Rock Challenge event at the Sands Centre in Carlisle tonight.

The school have always presented our company with interesting projects, be it Polka dot jerseys for their ‘King of the Mountain’, Gingerbread Men T-Shirts or, in this case ‘The face of Death’. The most pleasing thing about this year’s design was that it allowed us to try out a new product – the ‘Glow in the Dark’ garment film – on the front of their Rock Challenge T-Shirts. We hope that it has had the necessary effect for them at tonight’s performance.

Although the school have been involved in the show tonight, they were not competing against the other schools in this event, as they are one of the premier ‘Showcase’ schools in the competition. The ‘real’ event for them is to be staged at Grimsby Auditorium on Saturday 23rd June against one of our ‘local’ teams, Peterhead Academy, who are another of the ‘elite’ premier schools. They are, however, eligible for other awards that are given at the Carlisle event for various aspects of their performance.

The photo above has been with us for a couple of days as it was taken during rehearsals, but we have been sworn to secrecy until after tonight’s performance about the ‘Death Puppet’, so have been unable to post it until now.

We hope to get a full report from our two spies (Amanda and Natalie) about the Cockermouth performance in the near future, along with details of how you can help support them in the ‘Race for Life’ event in June!

News has just come through that West Lakes Academy has just won tonight’s event, so many congratulations to them! We hope that they might like to use us for their T-Shirts next year….just a thought!!

More News just in (7/5/12) …. Cockermouth also picked up awards for best backstage crew & spirit of rock challenge!
