You may have been wondering why I have not been making the usual frequency of posts on this blog over the last few days and thought that I had taken another well deserved holiday. Unfortunately, this is not the case, as I have been adding more stuff to our galleries instead, as I figured that it was time that they saw a bit more life!

The new additions are as follows:-

  1. More national flags in our clipart gallery for you to use.
  2. More fonts in our font gallery from which you can choose (all free fonts and can be found on the web).
  3. A new art exhibition from one of my friends on deviantArt.

I now intend to add a few more bits of clip art into our plants and object galleries, but would still appreciate any submissions from readers who have used my tutorials.

Very soon I am expecting a posting from a guest contributor about the Aberdeen Kettlebells competition. Hopefully this might inspire some more of you to contribute to the blog?

I would like to thank my facebook friends who have joined our happy little band tonight and have entered our competition to win £30 worth of goods from our catalogues. I hope that you will all take a look around this site and start to enjoy the benefits of membership.

As a member, you are now able to leave comments on our postings and, if you have an event to advertise (especially those for charitable causes), you will be allowed to make your own postings. If you are of an artistic nature you might take a look at some of our tutorials or event submit a gallery of your own work in the East Wing of our gallery. You are also invited to contribute to our clip art resources to help other members with their own work.

Last night we achieved 10,000 hits on the site (excluding members) since we started up at the end of January, and are currently averaging more than 100 hits per day. This means that your contributions will have a good chance of getting seen!! Happy

Very soon I will be introducing you to another charity that the company is supporting, this time in Cockermouth, Cumbria. I hope that you will give it the same kind of support that you gave to Mandy and her friends in Nottinghamshire earlier in the year. More details to follow in the next week or so.

Lastly, I would like to wish the teams from Fraserburgh and Westhill our best wishes for their performances in the Scottish Rock Challenge finals tomorrow night, especially as this will give me something else of local interest to report to you all. Good luck guys – Break a Leg!!

Tutorial – Creating your own Photo Clip Art – Part 2 (Starting out)

This article is part two in a tutorial. It is recommended that you read Part 1 first.

Selecting your Photograph

In order to produce a good quality piece of clip art, you must always start with a good photograph. The old adage about not being able to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear holds very true in all matters graphic. You would be amazed at the amount of customers that give me ‘Black cat in coal cellar’ and want me to turn it into something akin to a David Bailey original! This is not possible. Continue reading

Believe it or not, this blog is not a random collection of posts about whatever takes my fancy, interspersed with Billy’s offers and customer feedback, but is actually planned a few weeks in advance. (Hard to believe, I know, but true none the less)!  :-)

By way of proof, if proof were needed, here is a list of what is coming up over the next few weeks:- Continue reading

Have you booked your holidays yet madam?

“Der spring is sprung

Der grass is riz

I wonder where dem boidies is?

Der little boids is on der wing,

Ain’t dat absoid?

Der little wings is on de boid!”

Putting the clocks forward, to most people, heralds the arrival of spring. To us good folks at PomPrint Designs however, it not only indicates that spring is around the corner, but also that wedding time has already arrived, and we are about to witness our annual inundation of orders of t-shirts for Staggers and Hennies, which are increasingly being staged in further flung and more exotic corners of the planet (der boids is on the wing). Here is a little bit of Irish clip art that I have thrown together for St. Patrick’s day. Hope that you can use it!

Introducing a new contributor.

One thing that I really enjoy about being involved with artists and, more to the point, artists that are involved with FOSS (Free Open Source Software), is that you meet up with some very talented and very generous people.

One of these is an Italian friend of mine, Cristian Pozzessere, who goes by the pseudonym ‘ilnanny’. Cristian has very kindly allowed me to add his vector graphics to our collection here on this blog and App and, as always, these will be free for anyone to use (they carry a CC0 – Public Domain license).

I do hope that you like Cristian’s work and, if so, why not visit him on OpenClipArt and download the original vector files, or see more from ilnanny on deviantArt?
