At last I am able to announce the winner of our March 2012 Caption Competition! But first, I would very much like to thank Peter, Melanie, Trudi, Hayley, Barbara and Darren for helping me out by judging the competition. As you are aware, I was very keen to ensure that the entries were judged without bias, and I think that these people have done a great job at keeping the contest as neutral as possible! Please feel free to thank them all by commenting this post, I’m sure that they will all appreciate your thanks! Continue reading

Found this picture of Dianne (my wife) and friend and figured that we could use it as a caption competition fill-in, while we await the results of the real one.
No prizes for this, I’m afraid, but let’s have your best ideas on here as comments.
Less than 2 days to go!
A final reminder to all followers of this blog that there are less than 2 days to go before we close the March caption competition to win a Craghoppers Kiwi 3-in-1 Jacket (worth £115 RRP).
Remember that you are allowed 3 entries per email address, so if you have only made one suggestion so far, you can still enter again.
Full details of the competition can be found by clicking here.
Details of the prize can be found here.
I will be contacting the judges shortly with a spreadsheet of entries for them to mark. Result will be announced at the end of next week.

I have now had a chance to look at the damage caused by having to re-install WordPress, and I am pleased to be able to report that things are nowhere near as bad as I feared! From what I am able to glean from the reports, the previous version was unstable, perhaps as a result of me load balancing (a stab in the dark), or just me screwing something up because I didn’t read the manual (male trait, I’m afraid). This incarnation would appear to be a lot quicker and has yet to give me any errors (fate has now been tempted).
I spent most of yesterday and today correcting errors and filling up galleries, and I think that the blog is almost ‘As Was’ before ‘Armageddon’. I am aware that there are some flags missing, which I will sort tomorrow morning, some of Cristian’s stuff is not in the right place (again, tomorrow), and a few of the images have a size of 0 x 0 pixels!! These problems will take a bit of time to sort, but are in hand. If anyone sees anything that I have not mentioned, such as a link that no longer works, please let me know and I will try to fix it.
I have managed to add a Google Translate to the footer of each page (which I have tested in French, but I can’t test in any other language), and also a Countdown to the end of the March Caption competition.
We are looking to hold another competition for a Ladies jacket in April, so please let me have your ideas as to what type of competition you would like (default is another caption, so please make suggestions). If you haven’t entered the March competition, the timer at the top right will show you how long you have to go.
Catch you all soon!!
Photomanipulation – an Introduction
As a result of the success of our ongoing Caption Competition, I have been asked on numerous occasions, “How did you do that”? After explaining that Mayah is a very intelligent dog, and about the circus training that she underwent before we bought her, I usually give up and confess that it was done using a technique called Photomanipulation. Competition update
I am pleased to be able to report that the caption competition is now getting going, and that we are now seeing a good amount of entries in Carol’s in box every morning. The blog is also getting bombarded with hits, especially from our friends in the Southampton area! (C’mon Chamberlayne!!). I am intrigued too, that we are now being followed by students at Chamberlayne on twitter! Thanks very much you guys we follow back! Continue reading

After a bit more delving into my past, I have now managed to obtain a full compliment of 6 judges for the caption competition. The last two are ladies that I know from my distant past and, once again, have not seen for 25 years or more. These are:-
Hayley Chandler
Trudi Anne Punch
I would like to thank all 6 judges for agreeing to help out, and hope that we get a load of good competition entries to make it worth their while.
Remember that you can all enter up to 3 times, and the closing date is March 31st. Full details can be found by clicking here.
